Recently new here, and just had my hairdresser for that much neede haircut. She says my hair feels different and thinner. Does anybody have any answers.? Or help to keep it. Already lost all hair once from cancer!
Must say I’m finding this all very hard to come to terms with.have also had to come off diuretics for two weeks as my electrolytes were all over the place. Now I have the fluid back, resulting in less energy.
Hi Rowan, I had cancer too, now got cirrhosis from Hep C. I totally understand how much this upsets you, l lost my waist-length hair at the age of 13. I will share what works for me.Treat your hair gently: air dry as much as possible, careful brushing, wide tooth comb when wet. Try to avoid bleach (haha l don't do this, or at least l didn't until Covid restrictions) and don't pull it too tightly into braids or buns. If you keep it shorter and blunt cut at the ends it will appear fuller. A bit of product at the roots will also add volume. Hope this helps! xx
Thank you. After my hair grew back, I left it grey, so no bleach! Always had short hair too. So frustrating when we’ve done cancer as well . I’m not sure about you but the fatigue thing is really bad and I’ve always been active! And all my kids live in Aus.Anyway I’m sure you have your own problems but nice to chat. Take care
I confess l now have longish, sandy brown hair, but l am looking forward to a fresh cut. I'm not sure what color! 🤷🌈 It has been nearly five years since my diagnosis, gradually l have come to accept some limitations (can't exercise every day, need to recover). It is frustrating because l am overweight and need to exercise. I had worked my courage up to attending pool exercise classes when covid hit and everything closed down. I was also diagnosed a couple years ago with sleep apnea, my CPAP machine saved my life, l was up at all hours before that. How old are your kids? You must miss them terribly. Feel free to pm too, always open to a chat! Take care. xx
I have never had an issue with my hair so I am not really sure why that is happening.
Re the fluid, are you following a diet of strictly no salt? Salt is one of the big causes of the fluid. Things we don’t think about, tinned tomatoes or most things tinned. Stock, mustard, any dressing like salad cream, mayo, Worcestershire sauce, Brown/red sauce are full of salt.
Thank you. I am trying re the lo salt diet . I’m going with things that are 0. 1 etc. And trying to avoid 1. 2 etc. As it’s all new to me it’s a lot to take in, do you use herbs for taste?
Yes I do. I also make a lot of dressings for salads just minus the salt. I don’t notice the missing salt, although I did for quite a while at the beginning. I use a lot of herbs, spices and garlic, I think garlic gives everything a taste of salt as do bay leaves. I have never had a cupboard full of this before 😂. I have fresh basil, rosemary and thyme growing as there are my favourites. Rosemary and Thyme for meat dishes and basil for tomato dishes and salads. The rest I have are dried.
This is the time when I wish I was a better cook🤪I will give the herbs a try and also thought I would plant some fresh herbs. Thank you. I’m also been taken off the diuretics for two weeks until a further blood test, so feel like a beached whale at the end of the day!
Nice to know that there are people also going through this that you can chat to.
