Good evening guys, so I’ve had a world wind the last few days. I went in for a routine fibroscan and the KPA showed 14.7 and I have been having an aching pain in my upper right quadrant just under the right ribs. I was then transferred to accident and emergency and had blood test and all my liver tests were in normal range besides the ALT being 141. It’s kind of shook me up a bit I’m 35 and had some stomach ulcers in 2012 which I spent some time in hospital and snowballed into several other disabling illnesses. I’m worried I have a severely disabled daughter who is 9 and a son who is 5. I want to be around as much as I can for them and this has really scared the life out of me. The hepatology department haven’t even contacted me and I had special blood tests for blood borne viruses but haven’t been called back or notified of the results. I’m just wondering if there is any support of someone I can talk too and try and get on top of this problem. I’m also diabetic type 2 and have GORD and fibromyalgia so my health isn’t good for the last 5 years. I’m fairly big as I used to play rugby and with the conditions most of my body has gone south if you know what I mean. Sorry for the extensive post I’m just a tad worried I’m close to liver failure. Please help me understand what to expect as I’m at a loss. Thank you Craig.

Good morning and welcome to this forum. I am sure you will get good support from fellow members. Diagnosing an issue with your liver is like fitting the pieces of a jigsaw together - one test on its own does not prove or disprove anything - it is a combination of results that determines this. If it was your GP that arranged the blood tests then you might consider calling the surgery to ask for the results and also to confirm that a referral has been sent to a hepatology department.

We have several publications on our website which may be helpful and I will give you the links. I am including one called non alcohol related fatty liver disease. I am absolutely NOT making a diagnosis but some of the things you mention regarding weight and diabetes may point in that direction.

We also have a free telephone helpline - you could talk to one of our liver specialist nurses about your concerns, I think you would find this useful. It is shut tomorrow due to the bank holiday but opens again on Tuesday. (The line can get rather busy but do keep trying)

0800 652 7330 Mon-Fri (except bank holidays) 10:00 - 15:00.
