So I have been on the list for a gastroscopy since I was diagnosed with cirrhosis last July. Because of severe abdo pain for the last few weeks it was brought forward as urgent and I had it this morning. I have had several of these before, all bar the first one with sedation. However today they were unable to do it. They said they were not able to intubate so for my safety they had to stop. They will now do an urgent referral for it to be done nasally. Has anybody got experience of this?

Good morning,
If you go to google and put 'nasal endoscopy' in the search box then you will see that many hospitals have their own information booklets on this procedure. It might be worth taking a look . The hospital where you have just had the failed procedure should provide you with information as well, if not, speak to the endoscopy department and ask.
Hopefully someone on this forum will be able to give you an idea of their own experience...

Thank you for your reply. The only info they gave was that the tube goes via the nose not the mouth. I had worked that bit out myself
