What a crazy question eh, refusing tests needed to put you on transplant list?
My brother is refusing to have a right heart catheterisation (like an angiogram). This may mean they won’t put him on list as they can’t be sure his heart is strong enough. I am at a loss. Will they definitely say it’s a no? I can understand why, of course.
I hate to say it but they are very unlikely to list your brother without this essential medical intervention, if they can't say his heart is healthy enough the anaesthetist (who has the final say in listing) is probably not going to sign off to say yes. 100% compliance with medical regime is also necessary for transplant listing.
What is your brothers reason for reluctance? Ok I know messing about with his heart is serious but no more so than replacement of his liver.
Hi Katie, thanks for reply. I said exactly the same to him, so did the doctor. He hates the thought of the tube going into his artery and says he will just thrash around in a panic and do himself damage. I find it quite bizarre as he will have to go through a lot more yet, but he doesn’t even like to think about that. His HPS means his time is limited. Hepatology OP appt next week and I’ll be there to see what he says to them but he seems adamant. 🙄
Hi Familyof, just an idea! I wonder if your brother could perhaps be given a mild sedative during the procedure. I believe that angiograms are done routinely whilst patient is conscious but I think it maybe worth talking through your brothers fears with his doctors. Also I’m not sure it’s worth making any comparisons with the transplant procedure itself as he really won’t know anything about that as he will be asleep from the word go. I hope his fears can be alayed and he goes ahead. Best wishes.
