While I fully understand that this site isn’t an alcohol forum, alcohol has had an impact upon so many peoples lives, and this site is about support and hopefully raising awareness with others. So please forgive me as this post isn’t directly liver-related.
What is often forgotten is the impact alcohol-abuse can have on so many peoples lives. There is a news story today on the BBC News Website entitled, 'My mum was an alcoholic and it was a massive secret': bbc.co.uk/news/stories-5600...
This is a campaign being run by NACOA (National Association for Children of Alcoholics), they have called it, “Children of Alcoholics Week” (COA Week)” Most people who know me will know that I personally hate the word, “Alcoholic” as this is just a horrible word that labels someone. Besides, a person can have a serious alcohol problem but not be addicted. So these people can then all to often fall through the cracks, because they can say, “I don’t need to drink every day, so I’m not an alcoholic and therefore this doesn’t apply to me, I’m alright.
This campaign is being run right now yet this is the first time I have heard about it mentioned. It’s run from the 14th to the 20th: coa.nacoa.org.uk/
Both Laura and I have been members of NACOA for some time now and would like to let people know that if they have any children at home who may require someone to talk to, then NACOA is always there 24/7.
