I am absolutely gobsmacked how the writers of Coronation Street have taken the issue of liver disease so lightly and given millions of viewers the impression that it’s a ‘walk in the park’ .

Those of us that have spent years suffering can only feel insulted by the lack of true to life events, we who are PT can tell a different story, in my option it’s a disgrace that this programme be aired on National TV if they don’t get the facts correct or portray a more accurate version and the enormous struggle to even get on the transplant list.....

Forever great full for life

I think we need to continue watching to see how it's played out, this is only the beginning and hoping it becomes much more hardhitting as Peter's condition deteriotates.

I am following with great interest They made huge mistakes with Carla's drinking.... kidney transplamt then straight back on the red wine. They have to get it right this time with Peter whether it be transplant or death or l think the majority of the forum members who have been through it or witnessed it 1st hand will be straight on the backs of the writers and researchers !!

Hi Laura,

In TV Lala Land, livers grow on trees and nobody suffers from HE or has Ascites or a variceal bleed, this would be far too upsetting for people to watch. People don't want to know about the real harshness and horrors of reality.

Some years ago I went along to a local Al-Anon meeting. I was trying to talk about alcohol-related liver disease and talk about some of the varied, associated medical conditions. After about 5 minutes I was asked to leave. Nobody was interested and they found it upsetting that their daughter/husband/wife might one day end up suffering from these conditions. They rather swap knitting patterns and talk about local gossip and garden sheds. So I left.

Alcohol-related Liver Disease is a hard sell

Hi Lovlier

I watched it last night, disgusting! Where are their symptoms? No deterrent for anyone to cut back in alcohol. How irresponsible of the writers and producers. Shame on them .

As l said to loveliver, despite Peter Barlow having been an alcoholic for years in Corrie, this part of the storyline is in it's infancy so in my opinion, too soon to be criticising. However last week he was throwing up blood and l too will be very interested to see how accurately his illness is portrayed

Dreadful research.....

No one seems to have told Peter he can't even get on the transplant list until he has stopped drinking for a minimum of 6 months ! 🤷🏻‍♀️
