I contacted my GP after reading your replies - she booked me in immediately for a blood test. She has just phoned me to say that the results are very abnormal (eg ALT over 500, GGT 300+). She is contacting my hepatologist for advice today. Mentioned hospital admission which I'm hoping won't be needed. Thank you all for encouraging me to seek advice. By the way my biopsy results still aren't back after a month of waiting. GP has been fantastic.

Glad you got tested, they might hit you with a course of steroids to see if those inflammation numbers come down. If they do then it will help in the diagnosis of AIH as a positive response to steroids is often one part of the puzzle in confirming a diagnosis of AIH.
All the best, hope very much you don't need a hospital admission. Your GP sounds very on the ball - pity many others arn't so proactive.
The trouble is that steroids frighten the living daylights out of me, as when I've had them in the past for other things they have made me suicidally depressed. Maybe budesonide will be better than prednisolone. Anyway, the hospital have just phoned me and I'm being seen this afternoon thank goodness. Thanks for your support as always Katie.
Well done for seeking out the tests. Hopefully they can investigate further and offer treatment. Keep us posted how you get on
