High liver enzymes for the last 15 years...!! No certain diagnosis..!! Any help...??

Hi everyone;

I have been living elevated alt ast and ggt formthe last 15 years. These values go down as soon as i start taking ursoactive. I had all relevant tests done inc liver biopsy; all clean / no fat no fibrosis etc... AMA - ANA —- all negative...

Is anybody else having the same type of thing?

Any help would be highly appreciated!! Thx

I have elevated levels for over 35 years. Going for more tests as my Gamma is 324 now, way up from what is was and for no reason I can see. I have totally quit even social drinking for quite a while now. You are not alone, I have heard of other ppl with this problem. Good Luck.

Are you not taking urso / or any other meds to keep your enzymes low?

I have spoken to a couple ppl since yesterday and now i am going to try a gluten free diet for a while and test again...! Acc to some studies and cases, gluten sensitivity/ intolerance (not celiac) can cause enzymes to get elevated.

Hope i can see some results at the end.

Yep my enzymes have been high for around 15 years, had all the tests numerous times and biopsies but no cause found, I do have ulcerative colitis and take anti inflammatories which was a possible reason but the levels didn't alter when I stopped taking them so I'm back on them. My Gastro thinks it's just normal for me so is no longer worried about it.

maybe these values are also normal for my metabolism😃

Anyway, i am expecting better results after the gluten free diet which i have just started with today...

Good luck with the gluten free, I already have a very limited diet due to colitis and no gallbladder so it's not something I could contemplate trying.

I have GGT at 300 for several years (and probably many years before it was spotted.) I've had all the obvious tests and my latest consultant is of the view if that if it's just GGT and nothing else you just ignore it. No alcohol for 12 months but no change whatsoever!

I also have very high GGT if i stop taking Urso, like 600-800... ofcourse together with higher Alt and Ast

Maybe those values can be normal for some people... I have been living with them for the last 15 years - maybe more but i was tested for the first time for liver enzymes 15 years ago - and according to 2 biopsies + number of ultrasounds, no liver damage, no fat etc... but i just want to know my diagnosis, if there is any...!!

First off, wow! Thank you for all you wrote here. I have been concerned for about 20 years ago, at 30 years young... I was told “you need a liver transplant” and as a single mom of 4 with (twins of that 4 who were born premie so they have medical problems seizures etc) I was numb but no time to be scared I had to find out “THE WHY” I don’t drink etc or “THE WHAT IS IT” because just as high as all my liver tests labs mri’s biopsies etc there has been no diagnosis till this day. Now I have grandchildren and I feel pain upper right quadrant and very ill getting iron transfusions, vitamin D’ deficient so I’m taking vitamin D 50k units, etc My labs show me in the 800’s instead of the years of 150. Till Covid hit told “you have 3 months to live!” I was numb leaving my Rhuemotologist office after he really shocked me smh sooo now been a year n the scary part all I could think about was the several months and no doctor or nurse to see me or come to my home so sick I lost weight and the worry n the googling I did and research n medical terminology I’ve learned lol I was involved in a car wreck hit from behind and emergency surgery that was non liver related by a quack surgeon who gave me a false cruel diagnosis n said I have “NO Liver Problem it’s blah blah your intestines and a whole in your stomach” soo “must have surgery NOW”. Now I have had a year waiting for answers n help. It made my mind F’d up. Literally, after my 12-12/2020 emergency quack surgery.. I literally had panic attacks like I’ve never felt this omggg I left the hospital AMA on 12/14/2020 after being gutted like a fish and told next morning “well, I didn’t have to do any of that after all so I just closed you up. He literally cut me from my belly button all the wayyy down. Now I’m 02/2021 I can not work and I’m taking anxiety medication & my adult kids never seen their mom so vulnerable and sick and now scared with panic attacks multiple a day. I was sweating n still have that with rapid heart beats n the feeling of get me out of here. Feeling like a lost little child alone in the sea drifting. I’m a business working and multi tasker and go getter. I solve problems. But, I can’t seem to help me. I need a mommy or support system without draining my kids n friends who have busy lives and I don’t want to keep their plate any fuller. If anyone made it this far, lol I applaud you and apologize a little. But, I have to write this out for my mind and TO THANK EVERYONE ON HERE and I will remember all of you each time I feel sorry for myself. I pray and know I’m not alone now. I’m not a freak with some rare disease inside me and nobody listening for many years and many many millions hours of searching n my friends searching. My family or people thinking I’m a worry wort or hypochondriac lol but, shouldn’t take for a doctor to tell ANY OF US suffering mentally over this and physically over this that “LOOK AT ME! You might have 3 months to live do you understand me”!!!! Yep, I was alone and heard that from a not so nice bedside manner way and left to walk on numb air out of his office to drive home an hour by my lonesome n halfway home I called my dear friend n my sister and then I slowly cried. Yess well, it’s been a year and we all made it thru this pandemic or are making it. I’m thankful for many things many. Especially, this site. I have had slightly elevated liver enzymes on and off since 2013 after having pre eclampsia during pregnancy. I have gone through years of tests nothing comes up my dr was so sure it was fatty liver but my tests showed no fat on my liver a repeat one showed the same no fat. So im stumped. I try not to drink other than the occasional social event here and there my ALT is 43 and AST 39. I know on some labs they are considered normal but with Quest dx it is showing high
