I should add, that my dad gave up drinking about 2 years ago. But wondering if it would help with recovery?
That is wonderful news about the drinking! It does so much harm.
Eating a variety of different vegetables and fruits, especially avocados, and whole grains, and limiting red meat will help ensure your dad gets essential vitamins and minerals and keeps the plumbing moving. Also kefir and yogurt are easy to digest. It is very important to get enough vitamin D, ask doctor if he should be on a supplement, which needs to be closely monitored.
Best of luck!
Milk thistle can be harmful to a struggling liver, and as there is little quality control for herbal supplements, they have the potential to be toxic.
We would suggest to be very cautious about the use of milk thistle and to seek out medical advice from your own liver doctors regarding this.
More research needs to be done on the use and safety of such remedies and therapies.
