Obviously you'll need an individual plan from a dietician to assess what your current state of nutrition is because it can vary so greatly.

For a bit of guidance just now have a look at the BLT page on Looking After Yourself when you have Liver Disease which provides some generalized advice. britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

Hi sorry to hear your news.

I have a decomposed liver, so my diet plan may vary from your own. But personally, I am directed to eat 3000 cal per day, Salt intake is 6 g maximum, and my fluid intake is 1800 mil.

In my first eight months of being diagnosed I struggled greatly with my diet. I was petrified to eat anything with salt to the extent I was probably eating around 1000 cal a day.

My diet now is healthy, I believe it is balanced, I easily eat 3000 cal per day, keep my salt intake low and stay within 2 L of water a day.

This diet is a bit full on, so probably better for you to see the dietician and properly understand what do you need to eat according to the condition of your liver.

If you have told you have the same needs as I have I will be happy to help you plan ahead in an organised and fulfilling way as regards your diet. Obviously we are all hoping the best things happen to you, take care.

I have compensated liver so my specialist has said NO red meat, alcohol & sugary drinks also avoid white bread, white pasta, white rice and other than that eat a normal diet with good carbs, fats and proteins. I have followed his advice and my ast & alt levels are now in the normal range which he was very pleased with. You do have to speak to someone though because what you need depends on how damaged your liver is - so please speak to your specialist or get referred to a specialist dietician. Oh and I forgot to add he also said if possible to walk or do some form of gentle exercise at least 4 times a week. Good luck! Catz
