I had my ultrasound last Tuesday. The lady that done it said nothing concerning was found and to phone my GP in 7-10 days for results. I called and the receptionist told me it said no gallstones present and a fatty liver. She never mentioned that at all when I had it done? I can’t speak to a dr for over a week about it either which doesn’t help! Really confused and now concerned.

Liver results confused!
It's not normal for the person doing your scan to offer any comment at all because the scan has to be reviewed by a radiographer before the report is written. Whilst a fatty liver isn't something to be ignored it is also not something to get yourself too stressed/concerned about - it can be tackled and hopefully reversed.

I just feel I walked away at ease with her saying nothing concerning found and now I’m nervous it’s really fatty and through alcohol. The fact I can’t speak to a dr for over a week now too just makes it more rubbish. I thought when I’d called they’d have put me through to him to explain but guess I’ll just have to wait and see now.
Thank you
The good news is that if it is fatty through alcohol one sure fire way of reversing the fatty build up and preventing worsening is a cessation of alcohol. Another positive is if it is only at the fatty stage and not fibrotic or cirrhotic it should be reversible.
If you've not already seen it the BLT have an excellent page about alcohol related liver disease at :- britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

Thank you Katie. I constantly feel like I have something sitting in the right side of my stomach. Especially when I lie on it. Is this uncomfortable feeling and a burning stomach something that fatty liver can cause? I’m trying hard not to google because it’s always nasty things popping up!
Sounds like as part of your diagnostic tests they might need to run and endoscopy to look inside your stomach etc. My hubby (who has cirrhosis) suffered from horrendous indigestion type symptoms for months before we found out why he was so poorly. He has changes to his stomach lining.
There are all sorts of conditions that can cause a burning sensation in your stomach from simple acid reflux, GERD, Barrets Oesophagus, Ulcers etc. These can all be tested for with a scope down.
An enlarged fatty liver might cause your uncomfortable sensation when lying. All these symptoms need to be thoroughly discussed with your doctor and appropriate tests carried out.

Hello Bob323,
Unfortunately no-one can adequately interpret what the receptionist has told you other than your own doctor who booked the test.
In the interim, may I suggest you look at our section 'questions for your doctor' at the bottom of this link, this may help to guide your consultation next week
