I’m just after a little bit of advice. My partner is still in hospital as they are trying to ensure his sugar levels remain stable. I went to visit him last night and noticed the top of his legs are swollen due to oedema. I have found out this morning that he is not on any diuretics and they are weighing him to see if he gains any weight (which he has) due to fluid build up. They were going to drain his stomach which nobody knows if this is going to happen or not. He has a cough which I think is due to the Ascites. Is it normal to stop diuretics? Especially as when he went in with hardly any swelling and now he has swelling. I’ve called the hospital and they said they will look into it. But in all honesty they told me that last weekend and I feel he is being failed to a degree.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

When I was in a similar situation they stopped the diuretics as they were causing damage to my kidneys, so perhaps that is why, but of course there could be other reasons. They kept trying to re-introduce them, but for me they were not helping! It is all about finding the right dose for the body. You or your husband need to get more information on whether they are going to drain the ascites! Be persistent but polite! Write everything down if that helps and If they start to use jargon, just ask what they mean! I had it done and that really also helped reduce the oedema and feel so much better👍
He is in the right place and there will be good days and not so good days🙏👍
