I read alot about ppl had to stop drinking on here with a damaged or cirrhosis. No one ever talks about other toxins you gave to stop. Ie smoking full of toxins. Just like alcohol can make liver disease worse and all the symptoms come back. When I go diagnosed nurse said I need to stop drinking for life. Never mentioned anything else. I found out the hard way. Having odd fag. Then a packet newyears eve just gone. And I started with capsule pain again a few week later n all the horrible symptoms. There needs to be more clarity for people so that there clear on do, s and definite no, s

Did you think smoking was good for you? Surely you didnt need the consultant/nurse to tell you the dangers of smoking.

As an adult with a health condition you should be taking some responsibility for your own well being.

Yeah I know that. Was a one off. Put with friends on newyears eve. Never thought a few fags could have a serious impact on the liver. All the focus was on not drinking.

I understand where your coming from I am 8 years sober last month but I was still smoking 3 50gram packets a week to give you a idea of how bad my smoking was and I knew all the dangers from smoking but I didn't know that smoking can make your cirrhosis worse until they thought I had cancer I had many test and it turned out to be hardening of the arteries to the spleen which was due to smoking I haven't had a fag for nearly 4 years now but my spleen is extremely large due to my cirrhosis anyway but I just wanted to write this because I agree I knew smoking was bad for but wasn't told it can make your condition worse. I hope everyone on here is feeling as good as they can be and are staying safe and hi because I haven't been on here for a while 💙

Thanks for raising this Chris.

Smoking is dangerous for everyone’s health. People with liver disease are more vulnerable to infection and poor health overall so smoking or exposure to passive smoking is not advisable.

We would always suggest that if anyone smokes to speak with their doctor about what help is available with cutting down or giving up.

Best wishes
