My husband, Peeps, 82, first diagnosed with cirrhosis from AIH, six and a half years ago has defied all the odds. He has had every symptom, yet is still with us despite his chronic liver failure. He has been regularly hospitalised for everything but his biggest problem is HE. He was last hospitalised in January and after a week was diagnosed with Campylobacter - the diarrhoea, fever, delirium and dehydration inevitably trigger his HE and he had another bout of same a couple of weeks ago. It was originally suggested by his specialist that it could have been triggered by food poisoning. It has recurred and it has been incredibly difficult for me to treat and care for him at home especially with rampant HE. Has anyone out there had any experience of same? We are having another telephone consultation with his specialist on Monday but that is the only source of help. Thanks, Anne.

Hello Peeps7,

I am glad to hear you have appointment with the specialist on Monday.

I have included links to British LIver Trust information regarding Hepatic Encephalopathy - I am sure you have seen this before - but just in case it addresses something new

britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

Also, there is a new section about 'questions for your doctor' at the bottom of the patient charter information which may help your consultation.

Take care of yourself too,

Thank you so much for your helpful reply. I have downloaded same, we have all the resources regarding HE but I have never seen the Patients Charter thank you. It makes for a very helpful, informative read. Much appreciated, Anne.

Has his Doctor talked to you at all about having a TIPS procedure?
