Scared of cirrhosis being missed
Hi there, I used to be a heavy drinker and got pain where you are describing. Stop drinking alcohol because its rubbish for you mentally and physically, you don't need the stuff. You may have water retention, are you constipated? It could be a host of things as I'm not a doctor. Are you jaundiced? You may have fractured a rib without realising(I've done that), the pain could be muscular, ask for a full health check and ask doctor to feel for your liver when you visit next.
Hi cara ive had checks one ultrasound shown fat the other hadnt so had finoscan this shown slight fat, ive been drinking alot over the last few weeks with the weather and socialising more, and im terrified that i could of done more damage, the pain seems to be there constant but its a discomfort rather than actual pain, i feel like my liver has a pulse becaise recently ive started getting fluttering in that area, the pain radiates into my back and up between shoulder blades, my eyes are not yellow but dont look white either even my ribs are tender to touch
I wish I had the answers you need. Go to A&E, they should use there hands (there's a name for it) to check the liver. Maybe don't mention liver and show them the area your in pain and you might get more answers. They might go a different route and find something else that's causing this.
Thankyou im awaiting a referral to see a gastroenterologist again, can i ask has your pain gone now that you are no longer drinking, did u have the fluttering sensation where the liver is,
Hi lozz,it could be one of many ailments I have been dianosed with chirrhosis for 5 years and have never had any pain or discomfort in the areas that you mention,I did have to go to the toilet alot and very loose, just be persistant until they find out the problem.
Hi
Don't let them fob you off. I've got non alcoholic steatohepititis, this was diagnosed cos I kept pushing. They told me the pain is in the capsule around your liver as that has loads of nerves in it . Please keep pushing them. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
Hi Lozzafits. I think the first thing you need to do as Cara says is to stop drinking. If there is any damage to your liver at least you will be giving it a chance to repair itself and you may find the pain will start to recede. If you continue to drink you are just going to be worrying more and more that you have cirrhosis. So take away the potential cause.
Go to your doctor, tell him your symptoms and be honest about the amount you drink and that you only take 3 days a week off it so that he can arrange all the necessary tests to reach a diagnosis and will hopefully find the pain has nothing to do with your liver.
Don't worry just take the docs advice but do give up the booze in the meantime. Your physical and mental health will improve no end.

Hi Lozzafis
From experience your scans and results all indicate that nothing sinister is going on. Your doctor has probably given you the same advice. Ok there was a bit of fat in there, but that is not unusual. I suspect most of the population has some fat given our lifestyles these days.
Take the advice you've been given already here. lay off the grog a bit, eat a bit more healthily and see what happens. By all means have a regular check up, but if it were me I wouldn't be worrying too much about anything sinister occurring. Obviously you have a bit of discomfort, but try the easy things first and see what happens.
It would be better to stop drinking all together before it developes into cirrhosis. If they do endscopy then they could tell for sure if anything is there. Good luck
What was your fibroscan score?
