Thank you, Owlie. I get SO frustrated when there's a lot of "setting up" to do and I only want to talk with people! I'll give it a go. Cheers and stay safe. : )

Hi Barleyfield. No your profile hasn't gone - still very much there. Hep E is usually a very short lived and mild illness. The British Liver Trust page that Owlie has shared will give you all the information you need with regards to symptoms and everything else.

I see on your profile you are self-isolating with regards to covid-19 - it is standard government advice now that we all should stay at home other than to go shopping, one form of exercise, work or medical reasons. There is no additional need for self-isolation in light of a Hep-E infection that you'd need to do this. Hep E isn't a chronic, long term liver disease so unless your partner is post liver transplant or on any form of auto immune medication or either of you are in the super vulnerable group then standard social distancing advice applies.

My husband is in the super vulnerable group - he has advanced liver disease (cirrhosis) due to auto-immune hepatitis, is on steroids and has also got a compromised spleen. As there are only the two of us in the house I still have to go out to get shopping or we just wouldn't get any supplies. I am sensible when I do have to go out (which I limit to once per week or less), I wear disposable gloves whilst shopping, stay well away from others, dispose of gloves (in a bin) before getting into my car. Use hand sanitizer then when I get home, I unload the shopping and move it then go for a shower and clothes I had on whilst shopping I put immediately into the wash. We never share a bedroom but have to share common space in the house.

If you need to talk things over then the British Liver Trust has a telephone helpline and the ladies there will be happy to support you. Call 0800 652 7330 between 10am and 3pm Monday to Friday (not bank holidays) or email helpline@britishlivertrust.org.uk (emails can be sent at any time and are answered during helpline hours).

All the best, Katie

Has your partner spoken to the GP? He might need a referral to the local liver team just to have some more bloods done and Hep E usually goes after a few months.
