Hi

Can I just say that since being diagnosed with cirhossis 18minths ago folowing osopgageal bleeds and a spell in intensive case with end result being a tipps insertion this forum has been a life saver. Although I don't contribute much many of you have issues and concerns I can relate to and the many responses are very comforting to read as cirhossis is still treated as a "you did this to yourself" illness by drinking too much and although in some cases that is true I personally feel guilty enough for what I have put friends and family through without being told this. My family are brilliant but I tend to keep so much to myself as otherwise I feel I am constantly complaining.

On another note. Following tipps which was great success I have H.E and am on lactulose and rimaxafin. This has not made huge difference so I have now been put on LOLA. Has anyone else tried this with any success??

Hi Annie, What is LOLA ?

LOLA- is a preparation of L-ornithine & L-aspartate (LOLA) used to increase the generation of urea through the urea cycle, a metabolic pathway that removes ammonia by turning it into the neutral substance urea. It may be combined with lactulose and/or rifaximin if these alone are ineffective at treating symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy.

It is infrequently used just now though several European trials have shown it can be quite effective in treating HE.
