Hi all I have not posted for some time I have been going through trying to get my PIP back which I lost 16 months ago. Good news I have it back and back dated so all you out there that has lost your PIP keep at it, its a lot of hard work getting your specialist to write letters and gather evidence but the Tribunal board are there to set things right 👍.

Hi Dogbot. Well done for sticking at it and for getting there in the end. Some people find it all so stressful when they are not feeling well, and they give up when they are turned down for PIP because they just can't deal with all the hassle along with their illness and many medical appointments etc. Maybe this post could encourage people who were just going to leave things as they are to reapply and/or go to tribunal if turned down.

Hi

Fantastic news. Well done to you, so pleased for you. Take care Lynne

Can you get PIP with cirrhosis then? I didn't know that and didn't think I could apply for it. Any advice would be appreciated

It doesn't matter what your diagnosis is. Points for PIP are awarded on your ability to do various day to day living tasks and/or mobility issues (not just physical mobility but things like ability to work out timetables or safety of being able to navigate a journey unaided). My hubby (with cirrhosis) receives the enhanced daily living component plus basic rate mobilty. It's assessed on how your disability/long term health condition affects you rather than what your particular illness is.

Have a read at the PIP page gov.uk/pip to see if you might be eligible. Then before applying either get help from Citizen's Advice Bureau or local council welfare rights team plus I strongly urge a subscription to Benefits and Work website benefitsandwork.co.uk/ as their member only guides provide step by step instructions on the whole process.

It is a minefield and not without stress - hubby scored zero at first face to face assessment and we had to battle all the way to tribunal for the successful award. (DWP do not make this easy!)

Best of luck.

Katie

I have Arthritis as well, had it before cirrhosis but that seemed to bring it on fast.

That’s very reassuring news. Thanks for posting. Unfortunately, the assessors are like robots. They have a fixation that if you can look in to their eyes and can hold a conversation then you are perfectly fine. Where as in my opinion that shouldn’t be the case, liver disease doesn’t necessarily effect you speech etc. Also, it depends on how you are feeling on that day. However, there will be some days better then others.

I applied last year and was refused so haven’t had the energy to go through it again. I have cirrhosis, sjogren's syndrome, arthritis, coronary heart disease, anaemia, low platelets, sleepless nights etc but I can hold a conversation so I was refused. I’m sure we are all the same, we don’t give up we will keep on going. But what others may not see is the struggles the pain and anxieties we go through everyday 😔

Hi Hope1011

When I went to the assessors they gave me a score of 0 ????

So please look up the links that AyrshireK put in they are a great help, also get your specialist to write you letters they really don’t mind and if they are like my ones they rolled their eyes and said (them again). Then go and see citizen advice they also are very good and understanding.

My very best and keep going.
