Hello all you lovely people, I hope you’re all as well as you can be. I’m just back from a super trip to Canada. What a wonderful break. I stayed with friends and had a time of total relaxation. I felt very well on my return but now I’m home, I’ve caught a cold. I have a liver biopsy scheduled for Monday, bright and early. Does anyone know if having a cold will prevent the biopsy taking place? I feel a bit rough all round but I’m hoping it will still be done. Thanks for any information anyone might be able to offer. Paddy
Biopsy: Hello all you lovely people, I... - British Liver Trust
Biopsy
I personally wouldn't have thought so, your immune system should still be working just fine.
Thanks for that. I hope so
Yes, you should be fine. Good luck anyway. Take care Lynne
Thanks Lynne, this is my first biopsy and I’m a bit nervous. I really want it done so I can get some treatment under way and start feeling better able to manage at home. Best wishes to you, Paddy
All the best with it Paddy. I don't think a cold will matter. It doesn't take long and will be over before you know it. Alf
Hi
It's not too bad , a bit uncomfortable. They give you a pain numbing injection first. The worst part was having to lie down for about 4 hours after . Hope it goes well. Take care Lynne
I was supposed to have a biopsy last April. I was feeling quite well and looking forward to getting it over with but the first thing they did was the standard blood sample test which revealed that my clotting times were way below normal so the whole thing was cancelled indefinitely.
I imagine that if you have anything wrong that would interfere with the success of a biopsy, they will cancel.
Gertrude
Thanks for your response Gertrude. If no biopsy have you had your diagnosis? Paddy
Even without the biopsy, I had already been diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis basically from an ultrasound scan and lots of previous blood tests. They just wanted to check how damaged the liver might be.
Luckily, a big dose of cortisone, now reducing on a fortnightly basis, seems to have brought down the blood test reads to a reasonable level, even the clotting times.
But I did have to spend five days in hospital while they got that under way as they feared even a small scratch might have me bleeding to death!
