Prescribed medication

Dear all,

A quick reminder that all prescribed medications should only ever be taken by the individual they were prescribed for- and never shared.

Best wishes

If two people are prescribed exactly the same medication that differed in no form at all then where if the issue? Is it meet s moral issue?

Not many people realise that sharing medication is both dangerous and illegal. According to the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA), anybody who supplies prescription drugs to someone who it is not intended for, is breaking the law.

Sharing medication opens the risk of side-effects, but they could also react with any other medication or over-the-counter products that people may be taking. They could also be unsuitable for different bodies, especially if you have other health conditions or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

The message from the MHRA is very clear: taking other people's medication is a bad idea.

A spokesperson said 'Prescription medicines are 'prescription only' for a good reason, they are potent and should only be prescribed by doctors and other healthcare providers based on their clinical judgment after a consultation with the patient.'

Moderator has only just read this.

I can only reiterate what the law is. If you wish to discuss the rationale for the decisions then maybe discuss with a pharmacist or your liver consultant?
