I am 16 years old and have been diagnosed with Gilbert’s syndrome, I need help with what I should eat, I eat fish regularly, very little sugar and chocolate and low fat foods, yet my skin and eyes look very yellow, the GP told me the worse I eat the yellower I look but I don’t understand why it’s so bad, and how much worse will it get?? The level of bilirubin is above 40.

Hi Mupik
Whilst we appreciate your worries, the British Liver Trust forum is for adults over the aged of 18.
Could you maybe try to contact the Childrens Liver disease foundation for some support? Here is the link;
You may also want to discuss being referred to a liver specialist with your GP. They will be best placed to advise you what to eat and may also refer you to a hospital registered dietitian for more guidance.
Best wishes

Just keep a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Eat regularly and do not skip meals. So dont do any fasting and keep very low calorie-diet. That should keep you from turning into a Simpson. Otherwise you should be good. Gilberts Syndrome can not harm you.
Good luck and well done for being proactive, trying to find out info. Perhaps your Mum or Dad could join here on your behalf.

Ps sorry if I sound a bit condescending! It must be a real pain being 16 and old enough to join the army etc but not being able to join an Internet support group!
