Liver machine trial

Hi

I have a rare liver disease polycystic liver and kidney. I have been asked by my consultant at Birmingham if would like to be included in the trial which is a new machine for donated livers. I have never heard of this before anyone know anything about it.

Hi Carole,

There was a TV show on not so long back which featured it.

Basically it’s a machine they can “plug” the donated liver into, it tests it and cleans it, the aim is that livers that would not previously have been considered suitable for donation become viable.

There was someone else on here recently who posted about the trial and was going on it.

If I were you, I’d say yes to it.

My partner signed up to this without hesitation though he was very lucky to receive a liver with a great match.

I think this is the TV show and it’s being repeated this Thursday at 11.15pm on BBC Two.

Hi Carole

I was transplanted in January this year using what they ‘termed’ the Vittal trial which sounds exactly the same process that you have been offered, at that time there was only funding for 20 people, hopefully this is going to continue ! For me it was an easy decision to say yes. The TV program the other people I think are referring to was aired on 22 January called ‘at the edge of life’ it’s a fantastic watch, (my transplant was the 26th) I was extremely fortunate to have the same team for my transplant and are forever great full to these truly amazing wonderful people who saved me. I’m now 10 months in and feel really great with normal function test it’s amazing, I really would go for it !
