Confused about fibroscan scores

I was under the impression that a KPA of 7.0 or under was normal... but I see so many people with KPA in the range of 6.0 saying or being told this is a score of fibrosis.

I had an AFRI fibroscan last year that gave me a score of 4.6 ordered by my primary and around about 4 months later I had a regular fibroscan as part of my follow up with liver specialist and got a score of 6.3. The liver specialist told me I had no fibrosis based on that score. The tech had a difficult time getting readings on me for some reason and out of the 10 shots that she took, some of them were in the 7s and there was even one in the 8s.

I am confused about the fibroscan score for what is normal and what is not.

I do have pretty much all of the skin symptoms of cirrhosis confirmed but I know I dont have it as all my testing turned out normal with the exception of an enlarged and fatty liver (working on it)...

Anyone familiar with the fibroscan scoring?

Good day

Let me say I'm not a medical professional so this is only my uneducated opinion that I have formed from research and by talking to my doctors A fibroscan is only an indication that should be used along with other tests the score is dependent on the cause of the liver problems

Under 7 is usually considered normal range but the median average is somewhere around 5.3 I think so 6.3 is higher range of normal. Now most scoring considers normal range as F0-F1 so its possible that the higher end of normal could include F1 fibrosis that being said your score could just be normal for yourself and you have no fibrosis at all were all different. The score indicates that you are not near serious problems at this point.

There must be a reason you had these tests so if there are changes to your lifestyle you could make it would be wise to do them. I had the same score as you but I was a very heavy drinker so I'm assuming my score indicated some fibrotic change. For myself it's more than enough of a warning to keep me on track. I hope I made some sense Good luck

Yes it made sense... Thank you.

I originally went to the dermatologist because I had a bunch of weird stuff popping up on my skin suddenly. After he checked me over he told me I had palmer erythema in both palms, at the time I had 2 spider nevu but I have 7 now, tons of broken veins on my face and my skin had become very thin and transparent. I could never see any of my veins through my skin but suddenly it's like a road map under my skin. In any case... He asked me if I drank which I dont and havent in the last 7 years and then he told me to get an appt with my primary because he suspected I had liver disease...

I have seen many drs in the last year and they all suspect the same at first but my liver so far with almost every test short of a biopsy (some of them more then once) says that other then my liver being enlarged measuring 20cm and being fatty there is nothing else notable...

Still knowing that my symptoms are linked with cirrhosis and I have fatty liver, I have been working at trying to get my liver into better shape.

Fibroscan has different scoring ranges dependent on what the underlying cause of the damage is.

If you look up this page hepatitiscnewdrugs.blogspot... and look down at the bottom there is a fibroscan score chart upon which you'll see the different ranges for a few (not all) underlying causes of liver damage. In some you'll see that 7.0 kPa would indicate F1 level of fibrosis, in the case of NAFLD (Non Alcohol Related Fatty Liver it would be on the cusp of F1-F2 fibrosis).

Regardless, at this level fibrosis is still reversible if the underlying cause can be stopped or treated.

Hope that makes a little more sense.
