Leg cramps due to fluid

Hi all, I’m currently waiting on an ascites drain on my abdomen however last night the fluid in my legs increased and all day today I’ve been getting severe leg cramps if I sit or lay down for more than 20mins. This is purely down to fluid, not water tablets. Has anyone else experienced this and offer any advice on what worked for them? Thanks

Hi Craig, tell them at the hospital about your cramps sounds like you might need some electrolytes I used to drink tonic water for my cramps, has quinine in it which is great for cramps x

Thanks JoJo. Luckily the cramps have stopped for now but the fluid build up is really bad to the point that I can’t even lift my legs to get in a car now. I’m in desperate need for my ascites drain which is tomorrow so hopefully this will help x

Legs are usually controlled by your water tablets a drain won't make no difference to your legs ... I am surprised they not admitted you if they are that bad, if you are struggling you should just go a&e I had to as my drains were booked for a month apart and that was way too long ...

The drain usually helps my legs a little bit but I agree it’s mainly the water tablets. Unfortunately I’m only on a low dose as they affect my sodium levels. My drains were every 3 weeks now I need them every 10 days.
