I am 8+ weeks post transplant and am suffering (really suffering!) with lower leg cramps. Not in my calves, which I can deal with, but sometimes in my feet, mainly alongside my shins, and this morning (usually happens early morning when still in bed) I had cramps in both shins and in an inner upper thigh. It was very, very painful, I was perspiring heavily with the pain, and could barely hobble to the loo. I spoke to surgeon last week at QE liver clinic, and she gave me magnesium pills, but as I say, situation seems to be getting worse, not better. I have also been drinking low calorie Indian tonic water, which I have always thought can help. I have searched the website, but as far as I can see, no one else seems to have mentioned this...Does anyone have any thoughts. I will speak to surgeon again next Thursday when I am at clinic again.

Taar I am exactly the same. Was dreadful post transplant but 2 years later I still experience it but more infrequently. It is so painful. Hopefully you learn how to manage this. Post transplant is difficult but really improves in time. X
Roots57-- my birth year! Thanks for the reply...it kind of helps to know you aren't the only one with "issues" You hesitate to complain because it seems kind of "ungrateful"
Are you still on steroids post t/p at this point? High dose prednisolone commonly causes cramps. Hopefully the magnesium will help you but have banana a day too for potassium. Lots of folks on the AIH page suffer from cramps (prednisolone being a common factor).
Always good to get your input. I was on a high dose Predisnolone (5 tablets a day,) but that is currently down to just one a day (I look like a chipmunk also!) May be stopped next Thursday. I will take on board the banana factor, also. I actually had one today pre-getting your reply. All the best to you.
My hubby is on 5mg pred per day and always has a banana with breakfast as he suffered really badly from cramp in his legs. He's obviously not had t/p just on pred due to his auto immune liver disease.
I’m 2.5 years post transplant and I sporadically get cramps lower legs and some toes. This always happens at night time. I have had the occasional tonic water which seems to help. Another transplantee suggested the Magnesium Oil spray by Better You which worked for me.
Thanks, I will try the magnesium oil, as things seem to be getting worse, rather than better. Will discuss with xplant team at QE Birmingham on Thursday. All the best to you. Taar
Hi again Flowergirl 24. With the magnesium oil, do you spray it on the muscles that you are having trouble with...it just seems to be specific areas that are affected, so I thought I'd ask.
