I have been experiencing pain in my liver area, underneath the right side of my rib cage. It all started around 2 and a half years ago after overdosing concerta. It's hard to find information about whether concerta is toxic to the liver but I have found some things here and there on the internet. Pain in the liver is the only symptom I have, aswell as having kinda dark wee. I had a liver function test which came back all fine and since then I just kinda shrugged it off, but now its starting to worry me again and I can't stop thinking and worrying about it, as I feel the aching dull sensation all the time! I go to the doctors about it and they dont seem to ever believe me when I say that I have concerns over my liver. Could it be possible that I damaged my liver from this overdose? I just find it strange that its been so long and I still have the pain but have no other symptoms, surely my liver should have healed by now? I must have caused some serious damage for this to be happening, heck maybe its progressing. I dont even drink

Hi ganjmat, I looked it up in Livertox and Concerta did not come up. Did you ask your doctor if an overdose would hurt the liver ? Your gallbladder could also cause pain in the liver area. I would ask for a Hida scan to eliminate the gallbladder. If you drink alcohol, I would stop. You can have normal liver blood labs and still have liver desease, however, usually one or two of the liver tests would be abnormal. Best wishes
Hi! Yeah I had that same finding, but looking deeper, the main active ingredient of concerta is methylphenidate, which is actually on livertox as being toxic:/ But yeah I dont drink alcohol so I'm alright on that front. It just doesn't make sense to me to be quite honest. If I did sustain acute liver injury surely I would be a lot more ill now as it's been almost 3 years, or worse I wouldn't even be here, or my liver should have healed in that time. I'm thinking maybe I have fibrosis as there is no other explanation for this pain, unless it is my gallbladder ofcourse, but I thought gallbladder problems are usually a lot more painful and sharp than just a dull ache? Thanks for the reply!
Tell the doc u want them to scan ur liver dont let them.tell u ur liver is ok all cos ur liver functions test is normal mine was normal and i told them to scan me and they said i dnt need a scan cos tests normal ended up beggin for scan and they diagnosed fatty liver so good job i followed my own instinct and not a doctors advice on not needing a scan. Ur liver can still function normally even if it is quite damaged
Yes Jojo, I had my usual annual bloods and LFT was normal. I had had reflux and tummy probs also so doc sent me to gastro. He asked if I drank alcohol which can cause these probs, was honest and said yes and how much (think I saw him wince and his adams apple do a cartwheel !!). He booked me for Ultrasound before endoscopy and it came up fatty liver. It did not show on LFT test.
Nah it dont always show...doctors like to fob u off. They get paid all that money to sit at a fukin desk type on a compt and write out prescriptions i feel i have to educate them some times lol adams apple cartwheel😅😅😅😅i always get heartburn reflux lol but think it was cos of food i was eatin and the amount of alcohol i was drinkin cos since back on healthy diet and cuttin down on drink lol i dont get heartburn anymore. So wot was docs advice on the fat? Lol
