Hello can anyone share thoughts (obviously not medical advice) partner diagnosed with fibrous/cirrhosis, alcoholic waiting for detox, he's just told me he has had problems with his bowels for two weeks, urge to pass stools sometimes nothing other than clear mucus, other times black watery stools, no pain, he's always tired and has other symptoms, but the black stuff, that's new, Dr Google suggests it's a red flag and urgent medical attention is required, partner is concerned but has taken two weeks to reveal the issue ( it's obviously very personal so understandable), he has appointment next week with the GP but I am concerned, wanted to drag him to A & E he doesn't want to go to sit for 12 hours understandably, has anyone experienced similar ...thoughts ?
Black watery stools : Hello can anyone... - British Liver Trust
Black watery stools
Hiya,
With his condition and can be a sign of internal bleeding. Yes I understand it's no fun waiting in hospital but better safe than sorry. If you can't get him to a&e phone his GP and tell them and I'm sure he will get an appointment sooner. If that fails take him to walk in centre. I doubt any doctor will take it lightly and will test his stools just to be on the safe side. A big hug to you as I know this is not easy for you!! Xx
Thank you we have agreed that he needs to see someone urgently, everything suggest bleeding,he has a low platelet count and been told to be very careful about cuts and knocks,I sometimes think it's worse to be the bystander and it's someone you care for, fingers crossed we can get him seen and sorted x thank you for the hug x
Hi matey anything black coming from that end needs urgent medical attention encourage him to go to the hospital, good luck get him a mag to read while waiting.
black stools are a red flag,
over the course of time i learnt to love the stool as it is a recent reflection of how the body is working
we all have known the chilli or curry effect
Black stools needs immediate medical attention he needs to go hospital asap he wouldn't be say around for 12 hours if he has this problem I was taken straight to theatre to be banded ..
I think he's in denial, and very scared, he's also physically addicted to alcohol and has just been given the green light for detox and doesn't want anything to get in the way of it as its a home detox etc I have explained that if he is in hospital they will give him meds to help with withdrawal etc, waiting for surgery to open so I can get the GP to tell him how it is x thanks
He's seen the GP she has run some tests will get a call today or tomorrow with the results, his vitals are all good, she is concerned but not viewing it as a medical emergency at present , fingers crossed
Black stools could indicate that he has blood in his stools and that there could be a bleed somewhere. He needs to go to his doctor as soon as possible.

Your partner must be scared to have black stool is usually a sign of a bleed so glad he’s seeking medical advice next week, he right a/e no point unless he starts to vomit fresh blood and have fresh blood rectal
