You'll probably find it'll be basically the same as your clinic's in Liverpool. I haven't found there to be a great deal of difference myself. Its just your now meeting with those that will actually be responsible for you should you be listed for transplant and also post transplant.

My initially appointments with the Birmingham consultant was at an outreach clinic at Salford. I didn't have HCC, but would imagine the protocol would be similar. Up until the point i was listed for transplant, this was how my clinic appointments were managed. One appointment would be with the Salford Team alone and the other with both the Salford and Birmingham team. The later being roughly every 3 months. On being listed all appointments were held at Birmingham roughly every 6 weeks.

If you haven't been assessed for transplant yet, i suspect the first appointment will be to determine if now is the right time to send you for assessment, or whether it can wait. If they feel it is ok to wait they will review that each time you go. If they think you should be assessed they will tell you then. They did with me anyway.

I assume your appointments will be at the main Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Easiest way to get there is by train. Get off at University Station and its a 5 minute walk. London Midland operate a service from Liverpool to Birmingham so its pretty straight forward. Change at Birmingham for the Hereford, Redditch or Longbridge train (these usually go from platform 12). University is the second stop on the line. Parking is available at the hospital but you could be searching for a while for a spot, so if you are going by car allow yourself a good half hour extra just for that.

Hope thats helpful. Let me know if you need to know anything else.

is it a consultant appointment or transplant assessment. if at liver out patients.... it will be blood tests blood pressure. weight amd and you will see consult... probably basic feel of tummy and they will take another history and symptoms etc and they may book you back in for an ultrasound on another date

ive been going from Somerset for 19years and last year had a transplant.

be prepared for a bit of a wait if its the clinic... as its very busy... but i have always found on the whole very good.

hope it goes well. best wishes cazer.

They usually do the transplant assessment in the heritage building, although i am aware that some of the clinics can be held there too. If it was the assessment though they would have said on the appointment as they'd want you there for about 9.30 and you'd be there all day.

The letter says its the heptobiliary clinic the appt is at 10am. We were surprised to get an appt as the consultant in liverpool said he would send everything to birmingham to discuss at their mdt but dont build your hopes up too much as regards to an appointment so we were really shocked to get letter. How are you now after your transplant did it all go well for you

I'm great now thanks. Everything so far has gone really well since the transplant. Couldn't believe the difference in feeling before and after. Hope all goes well for you tomorrow.

not too bad ta... some issues but just have to be patient...

you might find its easier to get a train from hotel to hospital as parking can be a bit hectic... if driving leave plenty of time... as the car parks do get full quickly.

hope it goes okay. cazer.
