while I'm eating at a restaurant. The cramps last as long as 15 or 20 minutes. Are there certain
foods or chemicals that cause this? I thought maybe it's sugar or food preservatives that cause this symptom. I know that when I eat or drink too much sugar I get leg cramps several hours later. I usually eat salads, soup, fruit. This has been happening for a few years. I am in my early 70s. I have acid reflux and high blood pressure.

Hi, I get painful finger cramps too. Read somewhere it was vit d and magnesium deficiency....I started to take supplements and don't have too much trouble wth it now. I have AIH . My dad had severe finger cramps, he had fatty liver. Wondering if it is something to do with the digestive process, vitamin deficiency.
I agree with CastorOyl , deficiencies in Vitamin D and magnesium might be the culprit or your calcium/potassium level might be too high or too low. However, don't supplement before speaking with your doctor and getting your blood checked.
It might be a side effect of your medications.
They other thing it might be is your adrenal glands (small glands on top of your kidneys), perhaps your cortisol levels are an issue.
Whatever the cause, this is one for your GP, please don't try to treat yourself.
