I'm back on the waiting list right now, and had a tips after my first tx 18 months ago. So that's just not true.

But get the facts. Tips can cause hepatic enchalopothy and it is so so bad.

I have it and in many watts it has stolen my quality of life. If I had it to do over, I would not.

I was told because I had massive ascites before an never got enchalopothy then I should not get it with the tips shunt.

Well, I do have the episodes. They are horrible. I can go up to 48 hours with no memory and acting like I have dementia. I have been close to coma several times.

If you live alone your at a huge risk.

Now I am trying to get nursing care to come and be with me on the days my partner has to go into the office.

I can't go anywhere as I might jump out of the car. I pulled out my line in my arm with no memory at all of doing it. Then I cry and vomit for days after the episodes.

Sorry, but the facts are what they are.

And if you work and get these episodes from the tips..forget it.

Good luck

Sorry.

Well, pls speak wth your doctor, ok? Everyone is different. I just know they never really told us how serious the HE can be and how it effects everyone in your life.

Oh, and it was my pic line I pulled out. I'm so lucky I did not bleed to death.

And my partner has to make sure I take my meds etc.

Thank god I know to go to the bathroom still.

But often I'll sit in one position for hours. Or start screaming. Forget where I sleep etc.

I just have no memory. And sometimes I just sleep a lot.

It's a pendulum that swings. I went two or three months without having one and now they are back every week to ten days.

But like I said, speak to YOUR team, ok?

Everyone is different.

My portal hypertensive n in my liver transplant is serious.

Thankfully after the next transplant that shunt will be gone!

Good luck! Kimberly

Hi I had a stent fitted, but I wasn't informed of effects it could have as I was in a coma and it saved my life. About 5 months after I had it fitted I began suffering with confusion and swelling I was taken back into hospital and the stent was readjusted I had a 12 month break before I begun suffering with H.E severely that's when I found out the side effects of having a stent fitted but for me it was a small price to pay as it saved my life having it fitted in the first place ☺
