Not something they tell you and not sure if they could explain to someone who needs one, they go off blood's and how your body handling.
Never came up as an issue: I had cirrhosis and HCC but was pretty symptomless even up to the point of transplant.
i just answered this for someone else. EVERYONE is different. Everyone. Mine were close to normal when I got my transplant. BUT I had massive ascites. Getting belly drained every 10 days, up to 19 liters. never less than 12.
Check with your doctor, but it has to do with so many factors, quality of life, age, illnesses associated with liver, how long you've been sick..my one friend waited 12 years before getting hers. Her functions were terrible, but she was fine, able to do everything..so you see, it really is based on the individual. Sorry, but even if we knew, we would still tell you to ask your doctor, because we are not physicians.
good luck,
kimberly
I have NAFLD a form of cerhosis of the liver. I was added last September but ,
Im waiting to be reassessed again but some of my bloods are bad (low iron below 7) platelets none existent so bruise easily ,poor white cell production so can't fight infection, bilirubin is double, no vitamins D,B and K. Low Calcium, and need 20 Litres fluid removed every ten days, have malnutrition as well.
I'm of two minds about having a transplant or just palative care. People will think me mad but I'm developing a hate phobia about traveling to see the liver transplant team. I panic even going into my local hospital 15 miles away. I spent 37 weeks out of 52 last year in hospital.and already 30 days since January. The Liver unit is 150 miles away from my partner and family.
