Does anyone know where you can find out the number of people on the "active liver waiting list", just trying to get a rough idea of the figures on where I stand within my blood group.

Here's hoping we all get what w want in 2017

Hi, I'm not sure if that information is available publicly. However certain aspects are involved things like severity of your liver just maybe there may be a more priority case awaiting a transplant. Other things include your body weight, blood group and body size all come into play, in my case I was lucky and was only on the list for seven days. I hope everyone who is on the list is not waiting too long.

Hello Mick,

The transplant 'active live register' is administered by the NHS Blood and Transplant Centre in Bristol.

Their latest figure for 1st October 2015 was, 587 on the active list for a liver transplant.

"587 people on the waiting list for a liver transplant, 129 of whom had been waiting longer than a year. An adult waits on average 137 days* and a child 74 days"

You can find these figures on their website.

As you know Brummi got his after only 7 days, mine was in 14 days and a friend was just over one month. Unless you're on the 'super-urgent' list I think its just a matter of waiting and hoping.

In the meantime, you're get all the support you need from others on here, either from others early on in the process or having already had the transplant. Also, don't forget to use the website of the British Liver Trust for information and support.

Have a great new year.

You might find the report at:- odt.nhs.uk/pdf/activity-rep... interesting. It details all facts and figures to do with liver transplants in UK including details of numbers waiting at each of the transplant centres.

Remember you will only get the call if you are the most poorly in your blood group (at your transplant centre) who matches a potential liver in blood type and body size. Your place on the list changes all the time but the most poorly will always rise to the top quickest.

Patients on the super urgent list take priority for any available organ no matter where it originates in the country.

Fingers crossed you get your call in 2017 and all goes to plan.

Katie

As a number of respondents have said, the total number is less of an issue than your own position on the list (and therefore your priority). As a number of people have indicated, a 7 or 14 day wait is not impossible. I waited 5 months before the first call and then two more weeks before the transplant.

Having said all of that, it would be great if the waiting list were shorter - not wishing for more people to die, of course, but for more to be on the organ donor list.
