If the incision leaks for more than 48 hours a patient should ring the department in the hospital where the procedure was carried out. In your mums case that's a call that should have been made about 4 days ago, lol!

thanks I didn't think it was right the community nurse just tells us to pad it out and now theyr on about putting a stoma bag over it our surgery nurse said theres obviously more needing to come out trying to tell them I think its wrong is hard when no one listens anyway cheers for that

This is not unusual. Nor to use a stoma bag , two days if often not ages for leakage. Give them a call anyway, as it has been quite a long time now. Some people do seem to leak for along time, others never.

as bermuda 1 has said it in not unusual at all x this happens to my dad on a regular basis. the stoma bag is the best way , and the ones that you can empty without removing are great as they seal the area to help keep infection away. padding it out was a waste of time for him because as soon as we put it on it was wet and uncomftable

Hi, mine leaked for a few days whilst in hospital after the draining. The nurse put a mini bag over the site for me to empty into a cardboard bowl and then it stopped leaking and the site healed. Im not sure why mine leaked after. All I put mine down to was perhaps there was some that didnt all come out at once.

Sorry can't be more helpful but hope yours stops. Hope youve been given

advice from hospital if youve been able to ask.

Best wishes

julie
