HI CAN ANYONE HELP ME. IS A LOW PLATELET COUNT ANYTHING TO DO WITH NAFLD?
Thanks
Hi Rosie I have a low platelet count, I was told it was to do with cirrohiss, so it could be. Annette !!
Low platelet count is often associated with all types of liver disease, not specifically NAFLD. It means the spleen is catching/collecting too many platelets (and then the spleen becomes enlarged).
Sounds like you need to make some changes to improve your liver health and get your NAFLD under control. Have the docs told you if anything specific has caused the build up of fat in your liver? i.e are you overweight, are you diabetic, do you eat a high carbohydrate or high fat diet, is your cholesterol high, are you insulin resistant etc etc. To improve your liver health, increase your platelet count and reduce the size of your spleen there must be some self-help things you can do. But for that you need the diagnosis or cause of the NAFLD.
Hi Bolly, when I got the ultrasound report my GP just filed it. I haven't been given the cause if it. Nothing obvious. Not diabetic. Don't drink alcohol. Quite a healthy diet. Liver bloods steadily rising, ALT, etc.
I will just have to pluck up courage to bring it up to the GP because have got lots of pain.
Thanks for replying.
Are you on any medication for thyroid?
Hi Bolly, no I am not taking at present but have positive antibodies and TSH raised.
Just got some private blood tests back this morning.
Bilirubin, Ast, Alt, slightly elevated. Creatinine elevated, Lactate Dehydrogenase elevated, Mch elevated, CRP elevated, Globulin Low,.
Cholesterol all good.
I appreciate all feedback.
I just don't feel well.
As I said previously I am not any good at speaking up at the
Drs. I tend to put up until I can't any longer.
Your test results suggest that something is causing inflammation somewhere in your body, CRP is a general inflammatory marker, creatinine relates to your kidneys: did you have your GFR measured by these private tests. Not surprised you dont feel well but the blood tests need to be looked at by a doctor who can interpret them. If you get nervous or intimidated by your GP take someone with you to the appointment so they can prompt you to ask what you need to ask and back you up. Good luck, just dont let it rumble on.
