High BP...

Hello,

We had spiking temperatures and now we have spiking BP... It does come back to normal but the spikes have been close together and a lot more than previously... We do have a viral cold which he has caught of us and this is slowly making its way out... Paracetamol for the cold...

He has been quite sick. I think he's hiding the pain in case I take him to hospital. Took him to the GP where the nurse measured his bp, again finding it very high... I spoke to the hospital who said the doc will speak to the GP surgery and told us not to go to the hospital... His BP has gone as high as 188/117 but then back down to 127/77...

A very disoriented Pear

Gosh xx I don't blame you feeling disorientated !!!! BP 188/117 ??? Why did hospital day not to go ??? Very strange - you have resources available and you have every right to use them - they don't seem to realise that there is a poorly man being looked after by his wife (who will worry about every single thing) - even with my training there were times when I just thought 'sod this - I can't do it any more' - you have 111 (for what it's worth) if you feel worried ring them xxxx it takes all the responsibility off you !!!! You shouldn't have to deal with this alone xxxx they are the professionals they should be responsible for his care (in or out of hospital) something is obviously going on - so they should be doing something about it xxxxx I hope you get some answers soon - does he have a particular consultant ?? Perhaps a phone call to his secretary asking for urgent advice/appointment just to put your mind at rest xxxxx sending lots of love and hugs xxxxxxxx 😘😘😘😘

Hello, since being sick he's been sleeping and no temp at all also BP is behaving around the 150/80 mark so going to see how it goes... I've decided if it worsens going to go into hospital and not bother with the phone calls...

Good xx it gets me so cross when everything gets left to patients loved ones to deal with - when they themselves are going through hell xxx if I ever had to go through anything similar again I would be turning up at hospital/GPs all the time - instead of 'coping' at home - you must be absolutely knackered 😘😘😘😘 Robs was a year ago (24th may) and I am still trying to get over it all - I pray you get the call soon xxxxxxxx

Hi hun,

Did you start the antibiotics?

How often are you taking BP & temp?

What anti emetics do you have?

What support have they offered if they do not want you to take him to hospital?

A load more questions for you again, sorry.

Hopefully this is due to the viral cold, the bodies response could show these signs for any virus or infection.

Being a martyr to the pain will.not help BP ( it raises it) & could be leading you to a false diagnosis based on the things you have been told to monitor, needs to control pain with analgesia as prescribed.

Hello, they said only start the antibiotics if temp raises over 38... He's got ciproxifen... Temp is fine and since being sick he has been sleeping... I've emailed the consultants secretary so will see what she says... Also if this goes on then will take him in... He's off food again... Could all be part of this virus...

Sorry... Half message got deleted...

Doing his obs every hour. BP is staying around the 150/80 mark. Temp 36. They haven't offered anything but just that doc will discuss with GP. But if things worsen then will go in...

Hi Pear,

Sorry for delayed response, chemo wiped me out last night. OK now though.

Could all be normal response to the cold. But because he has other stuff going on, concern is greater. I agree with Rob's wife, this is not for you to bear alone. GP & hospital are the professionals & quite frankly should be acting like it. If they are feel this is best managed at home, then they should be sending in a community team to support you. You are a wife & Mother jot a trained health professional.

Hourly obs are a bit too much. With BP & temp at those levels we would still only be on 4 hourly on the ward. Keep up fluids to maintain urine output & replace following vomit. But Pear, if he worsens and you are worried, you get him back to the hospital & let them do their job.

Be very watchful. High spiking temperatures and BP, then falling BP can be an indication of sepsis.,

This happened to Mike several times but unfortunately not all medics recognize this early sign.

If his BP keeps falling get help.

Good Luck

Thank you to you all... He has just been sick - most of meds and ensure - so looks like we are back to this stage again... I'm going into the GP surgery for advice...the BP has been so erratic - 170/110 then dropping to 143/84...within minutes

The Consultant called and I told her what's been happening so we came into a and e and they have admitted him... The doctor said that this will now be the norm that he gets to come home for a bit and will get unwell and have to be admitted regularly...

They have done all his obs and bloods so waiting for results...

I must have done something right in my life to have been given you beautiful people to support me...

Huge cyber hugs to you all🌷

All blood tests haven't shown anything new, which is good, he is very constipated so the enema they gave has given him huge relief... They will do an ultrasound to check the liver... Then will get him eating and drinking again fine before sending home if scan is ok...

Again, all you super people keep me on the right path... Be it night or day - you come to my rescue and sort me out...

Huge cyber hugs to you all 🌼🌼🌼

Dear Pear,

Hopefully once he is over this cold, things will stay on an even keel for you both. Remember to look after yourself also, the common Cold can wipe out the strongest of us.

Take care
