Hello,not yet......But I've never drank nor smoke:/

hi-do you drink alcohol? any symptoms?-suspect there are because you don't normally get a GGT tested-long term drinking nearly always raises GGT levels. Can also be caused by Gallstones. ALT being raised can mean other things.

Hello,I really don't know much and I positively do not drink nor smoke all this makes me more shocked......Never been checked for gallstones.....My symptoms are being tired falling asleep and not realizing I did......Nauseated when I awake .Also my feet hurt and I get muscle cramps N soreness....Find bruises on me especially stomach.....

ok well the GGT level is not incredibly high-it can go into the thousands-you don't drink so cause could be fatty lever or gallstones-could be some issue with the biliary system-how's your diet?-do certain foods make you feel worse. I would definitely cut down on sugar/fat if that features in your diet? However your symptoms definitely need looking into-I suspect you will be sent for an ultrasound sooner rather than later. Dont worry too much at this stage

As I understand it, the normal range for GGT level is 0 - 50. Your result of 267 would suggest that you drink alcohol excessively and maybe you should consider steps in order to reduce alcohol intake.

I have been in a similar situation (although my GGT was not as high as yours) and I have taken slow but progressive steps to reduce my alcohol intake with improving results.

I wish you all the best at this worrying time.

Hi midnight. I don't drink either and my GGT is 1245 so a little higher than yours but I have primary biliary cirrhosis which is an auto immune disease that affects the bile ducts in the liver. Go to your GP and ask them to explain in detail what it could possibly be. If u need a chat just PM me x

A L T stands for alanine transaminase which is an enzyme largely associated with the liver. Google it on the web. I suspect that you may be taking alcohol. If so,you will stand no chance of a transplant (if you need one) if you continue to drink. My advise is to stop drinking,if your liver problem is not associated with alcohol you can only make the problem worse if you take alcohol.I wish you the very best of good fortune and tell you that livers for transplant are in very short supply so try to encourage your friends to opt in to donating their organs after death. You gp will advise you how to do this.

Hi the other relies are correct that a raised GGT is often an indicator of damage being caused by heavy drinking. There are other liver conditions that can cause this such as an autoimmune condition called primary biliary cirrhosis from which I suffer try the PBC Foundation they cab be found online. People will often jump to the most common cause which may be alcohol but this is not always the cause. X

Your ALT is high because your liver is under attack from something and is slightly inflamed: by examining your medical history/lifestyle and taking blood tests the doctor should be able to diagnose what is causing the raised level. It could be alcohol, diet, medications, a virus or an autoimmune condition, causing the elevations. It could be any one of 21 different types of liver disease! A raised GGT can indicate recent use of alcohol, but could just as easily be gallstones or a bile duct blockage. Hopefully further investigation and tests will give you the correct diagnosis. In the meantime, if you do drink, don't for now, stay alcohol free at least until you see the specialist as it will help reduce the current strain on your liver.

It is likely to do with your gallbladder or biliary ducts, given the combination of results and the symptoms. An ultrasound will show any gallstones or blockages do the biliary ducts, or if the ultrasound is clear, a more specialised one can be done to determine your gallbladder function.

Try not to worry and be very clear with everyone that you do not drink, otherwise you'll be sent home to "dry out for few months" and the whole process of testing gets delayed.

My GGT was 290 back in January this year - I have never drank heavily or abused alcohol in my life and I have been completely teetotal for the past two years. Please don't assume that this lady has been drinking to raise her GGT levels because I certainly haven't and mine were also high.
