Hello,
My husband has finally been listed for a liver transplant
Best wishes to you both, what a relief listing must have brought you, fingers crossed your wait for a new liver and fresh go at life won't be too long.
All the best,
Katie
Thank you, yes after a very long wait... And pleasantly persisting, we seem to be at this stage with lots of new worries and dilemmas... Tiredness is back and he seems very confused all the time....,
Congrats at getting on the list.. It was a year ago next Friday that I was listed. Hopefully your hubby has a good blood group and won't have to wait long.
Re diabetes and high blood pressure after the op. Yes, there is a risk that type 2 diabetes will occur after the transplant. Thankfully I haven't developed it, but am still at risk. Also the immuno suppressant meds do tend to raise the blood pressure. Mine shot up rapidly but, as the meds have been reduced over the months, the BP has come down too. I still have to take BP meds, but am only on the lowest dose.
All in all, this is nothing to put up with compared to what the liver disease did. Good luck, and may your wait be short.

Wow that is great news I remember the day they put me on the list, relief came and then more confusion. I had a very successful transplant in February this year and diabetes & high blood pressure came after it. I was soon monitored & put on the correct medication to help this and now my blood pressure is fine though I do have to continue with the meds for it but I have recently been taken off the meds for type 2 diabetes and have been told to keep to a low fat diet. For me these were just small side effects of having been given a new life. I am well looked after by the Liver hospital staff and by my own GP. I wish your husband all the very best and I hope you both have a very long happy life together. Always keep notes on any changes your husband goes through and always talk to the medical staff about any concerns you may have, they are there to help both.
Thank you.... The liver nurse said that he is a 'good' blood type. The HE is very bad at the moment as he forgets loads and gets very 'tourettes' like in the evenings. His liver is very damaged and appears really small on the scans... the Prof thinks that he is very likely to develop tumours on his liver as it becomes more damaged... There is no ascites but lots of air in the stomach.
Thank you for all your comments as they have been very helpful.
Congratulations, I wish you both the best of luck. I was, after a wait of eighteen months on the list, given a transplant last Christmas eve ( what a christmas present ). I was,by then very confused and really just existing. Now 10 months later I am now part of society again. I have started to include in my messages the fact that replacement organs are in very short supply so please encourage everyone you come into contact with to consider placing themselves on the donor list.
Very happy for you both! Today, is my third month anniversary! I wish everyone would get the liver as fast as I did! I got listed on May 9th of my his year and got my liver on May 15th,of of this year, being so sick it seem like ages to me! Recouping, its been hard, very stressful, I got the diabetes, high blood pressure due to prednisone, thank god, I am taking a lot less of a dosage, 2.5 ml to be exact. I also came down with CMV Virus, That's been hard because, I am always tired and horrible legs pain! With pain and all, I am happy to be here writing about it! wishing all well! Pear shaped, good luck to your husband !
