Hi There, Braggs Apple cider vinegar h... - British Liver Trust
Hi There, Braggs Apple cider vinegar has many health benefits, has anyone any experience or advice on taking this with AIH/PBC. Thanks
Ha ha ha, someone says it cured their athletes foot, lol! Bear in mind that everything you consume is processed through the liver. Apples should be ok. Cider is an absolute no no with AIH. Vinegar....hmm... depends whether its been made from the cider I suppose, in which case its a no no with liver damage. According to Wiki, the process of making apple cider vinegar includes "Bacteria and Yeast are added to the liquid to start the alcoholic fermentation process, and the sugars are turned into alcohol", in which case, absolutely don't drink it.
My wife has been diagnosed with AIH, and the first time we saw her ALT/AST levels go high is after she started taking a spoon of ACV with warm water early in the mornings. So currently ACV is our best bet why my wife has AIH. Every person is different, however I would say no to ACV when you have AIH.
In the intermediate stage, it will form a hard cider, but as time continues on it will no longer be alcoholic. Yeast will convert the sugar and produce alcohol, but friendly bacteria and enzymes will convert the ethanol into acetic acid (the acidic component of vinegar). ... There is no alcohol in apple cider vinegar.
