Has anyone with AIH on Prednisolone an... - British Liver Trust
Has anyone with AIH on Prednisolone and Azathioprine experience lots of muscle cramps/spasms? Anything help? Thanks. Ax
I have had bouts of leg cramps in the early days/weeks of treatment, some one advised me to eat bananas, I dont know why but it does seem to help with the cramps. all the best
HI i HAVE BEEN ON THE DRUGS YOU MENTIONED BEFORE MY TRANSPLANT. YES I CAN CONFIRM THAT BANANAS DO HELP WITH STOMACH CRAMPS BUT I FOUND THAT GENTLE STOMACH MASSAGE HELPED AS WELL.
GOOD LUCK LET ME KNOW.
I get cramp in joints- mainly fingers and ankles- and find that it is better when I have had a good amount of water
Hope you find something that works soon

I to used to suffer from cramp when i was on this medication, i ate banannas and drank 2 glasses of tonic water everyday which helped the severity of the cramp
Hi, I think that the bananas are providing potassium and that is why they will help with cramps. It's important to have a very healthy diet when your on these drugs as mineral deficency is common when your taking drugs. Cramps are often caused by dehydration/pottasium or magnesium deficency. Fluredix has a magnesium complex that could be useful to you. And obviously 2 litres of water spread throughout the day is great for everyone but particularly for those with liver problems and on medication. Elle x
I have been on both of these drugs and at the moment am only on azathioprine. I have always eaten 2 bananas each day and drunk water at work. To date I have not experienced any cramps
I know this post is old but to help others with the same complaint I may have a solution.
My partner has been previously on methotrexate and prednisone and suffered server muscle cramps. He has now been changed to Azathioprine and prednisone. He still suffered the same muscle cramps. He was taking both medications together in the morning. We tried spacing the medications 12 hours apart. Prednisone in the morning and Azathioprine at night. Little to no more cramps now. I hope this helps others
