Ruby can you re-phrase the question please. I think you haven't had any answers cos we don't really know what you mean. Thanks

Are will do. I was told when I was in hospital that as I have cirrhosis & fatty liver that only 20% of it is working. Also my consultant told me 5weeks ago that I was an A now have gone to C said I was doing well. Have stayed off the drink for 6mts 4days. Anyway, don't understand all this as 1, told 20% 6mts to live (6mts ago) 2, A I read was good C was really bad Ahhhh confused

I think the A and C thing is the Childs Pugh Score.

This is how its worked out: - gpnotebook.co.uk/simplepage...

Basically you score points for different things and the fewer points you score the healthier your liver. A is better than B and B is better than C.

You need to score less than 7 points to be an A, so for example that might mean you had no HE, no ascites but a not so good clotting time or your bilirubin and albumin that were out of normal range.

If you score more than 9, you are a C, so probably these people have ascites and HE along with the clotting, bilirubin and albumin being out of range.

As you can see there are only 3 points different between A and C, (B can be 7, 8 or 9) so liver damage can progress quite fast.

Anyone who is a C has supposedly got a much shorter life expectancy than an A, assuming nothing is done about the cirrhosis. However if you treat the side effects and give your liver maximum TLC (no booze, good diet, etc) it can be possible to go back to being a B and then and A. I think BigPlanet improved his Child's Pugh score but he hasn't posted for a while.

The life expectancy thing was because this was how medics moved people up or down the transplant list.
