Short Runs

I finally "got" the shorter run on the magic plan. So far I've been doing the speed podcast on shorter runs but I felt so drained over the last couple of days and I couldn't face pushing myself. So I just went and ran - I picked up a bit of litter and put it in a bin - I kicked some branches from the path as I would be cycling that way later. I just generally pootled about and I loved it. Now the runs are getting longer it's nice to have that shorter run. I've also turned off the 1km notifications and just have a beep when I'm halfway. Listening to your body is the best!

This sounds like it went really well. Good on you for picking up litter. I do that sometimes even though people look at you like you’re mad. But I just cannot stand people who treat nature like a bin.

The short run can be so relaxing, especially if you do parkrun on your 5k.

Did you know that a runner who picks up litter is called a Plogger , so welcome to the club. A shame we have to do it but I’d rather put something in the bin than see it heading for the beach and the sea.

My new HM training plan has a 3k relaxed run each week plus a mid distance speed interval run and a long run. It feels weird to run such a short run easy, but after being pretty tired lately too, I've been trying to keep it an easier run, as well and my last speed workout felt great. It does make sense once you can wrap your head around it, but I agree that it is a tough thing to grasp initially.
