Does Hormone therapy have a lot of sid... - Breast Cancer India
Does Hormone therapy have a lot of side effects and what type of side effects please?
Hi RGCI,
Hormone therapy does not have many side effects as such and are very well tolerated by most patients, so do not worry. Side effects will depend on the type of Hormone therapy. There are two broad types, one is the drug Tamoxifen; other includes Letrozole and Anastrozole; to speak in simple terms.
It will help us greatly, if you could tell us, which hormone therapy would you wish to know more.
I would also go on to add, that this Hormone therapy drugs have been very important in changing the outcomes in breast cancer. They have improved the survival rates and decrease the chances of cancer coming back.
Please do let us know, which Hormone therapy (as discussing everything will be a bit long) do you wish to know about. Apart from details, I will also try to give some useful links, which you can read up yourself.
hi,
I am just listing some general side effects caused due to hormone therapy. They can be:
Tiredness
Digestive system problems
Menopausal symptoms
Hair thinning
Effects on your muscles and bones
Weight gain
Headaches
Memory problems
Mood swings and depression
Blood clots
But they do depend on type of hormone therapy.
Just for information I want to share that there is one another therapy in trend called Immunotherapy in which patients immune system is enhanced so that to fight against cancer and it does not cause any of the side effects. This therapy is practiced by a hospital in Mumbai called Cancer Healer Center and getting good results but the results may vary for different patients as per the doctors.
Doctor - pl inform regarding Tamoxifen - my Didi has been advised to take for 5 years
Tamoxifen prevents further growth of the cancer and it is effective in that but it consists of some common side effects hot flashes, discharge, or irritation; and reduced interest in sex.
These side effects are not much of concern. There are some other side effects which are rare but are dangerous. Also if someone is taking Tamoxifen one should not take other type of medicine for these side effects as it will reduce the working of Tamoxifen. If you are having other medicine as well you should consult to your doctor about this.
