After the radiation the skin on on my ... - Breast Cancer India
After the radiation the skin on on my throat have peeled off and am using Soframycin . How do I clean the area where medicines stick please
Hi rgci,
regret the delayed reply. I was busy the whole day
Plain water is the best way to clean the area. Avoid any form of soap, as it will harm.
Sometimes, the medicines stick significantly, and do not come out easily; you may have to irrigate the area with lots of warm water. It will surely help in a day or two.
I will also enquire with my radiation oncologist and get back to you.
Thank you Doctor Sumeet . Will follow your instructions . Do get back to me after you consult your radio oncologist. Thanx.

The radiation also made my skin thin, peel off n burn. The discoloration lasted for 3 years.
A daily dose of Aloe Vera gel in its pure form was extremely soothing. You do get Aloe Vera extracts in the form of gels which can be safely used.
This helped me.
The burning sensation on the base of my feet n my palms does occur sometimes even now - 3 n 1/2 years after completion of the treatment.
I rub any soft cream along with a cube of ice on the burning portions.
Try it n good luck to you
This is my experience - it need not be yours but no harm in trying it.
Thanx Baku but I have been advised to use nothing except Soframycin and Betonovate till one month. I completed radiation last week only. So I shall follow your advise positively after my first check up in March. Thanx a ton for sharing the experience! How are you keeping now and are you on HRT too? Do you stay in Delhi too? Take care and all the best!
Hi again,
I live in Mumbai.
I am taking Tamoxifen 20 since the past 3 n a half years.
I exercise regularly - yoga n gym
Being 55 years young plus belonging to the crazy Parsi community, I know that I'll live to be 90 (wink wink)
Do what your doctor says.
Be happy n enjoy life
Baku this is really inspiring and I will follow your advise. Thanks and thanks a lot! Keep up your spirit,!
Baku, thanks for sharing your experience. It is helpful and inspiring.
rgci13, I asked my colleague radiation oncologist, and he suggested the same as yours (soframycin and Betnovate / steroid creams); but like baku said, Aloe vera can also be used, it is a bland substance and will not cause any reaction, and will help to soothe the skin there. You can consult your Radiation Oncologist, before using that; I am sure it should not be a problem.
Thank you Dr. Sumeet for your advise but Radiation Oncologist said I can use the gel preferrably after 4 weeks. I will follow her but I am slightly better also on that front. Thanks for your help.
