Skin grafting of the leg is usually done under regional anesthesia (lower half of body anesthetised). It is not painful at all. Initial few days after surgery, like any other surgery, there might be a little pain, which can very easily be controlled by pain killers. Then it will all go away.

After the graft is placed, if the ulcer is around a joint, then most doctors will prefer to prevent limb movements and may give a plaster or paris slab, to support the wound and prevent joint movements (like they give in fractures).

You don't worry, just go ahead the way your doctor tells you. Your sister will soon be fine. After grafting and covering her ulcer, she will be able to walk better than she can now. It will improve her lifestyle and make her daily activities easier.
