Hi little 12 - When my sister had started her 1st chemo - she was given a list/chart of diet - what to eat. I will see that I can give you tomorrow morning.

One thing is sure - you have to eat fresh cooked. She was given chemo in the month of March/April - in the summer. But she used to have a lot of juices - like water melon, coconut water, pineapple juice. She also except her 1st week of chemo - taking milk

Hiii little 12 sorry to hear about you but i m sure you will soon be alright. You should ask your doc about abdomen pain.as you know chemotherapy is given to kill fast growing cancer cells but unfortunately it also kill healthy cells of our body like blood cells so our immune system becomes weak but i dont think you should avoid well cooked vegetables.i also avoided raw food after my first chemo but after that my doc allowed me take fruits and sprouts.our digestive system also get affected so you should take care of what you eat. There may be a lot of side effects with chemo but dear remember the most important thing is ones' will power and positivity.take care of yourself and stay blessed .

Regards

sarika

It sounds like your doctor is recommending a neutropenic diet because your neutrophils are low and he doesn't want you to develop an infection. The information below is from a post I put here of ideas for dealing with chemo that I collected for my cousin (That post is on the site under posts, not questions). I hope this helps!

Pat

From Christopher Dwyer - the best researcher I know - posted on one of the online groups. This is really important if one's neutrophils go below normal during treatment. Some doctors will want patients on a neutropenic diet from the beginning of chemo.

You should follow a neutropenic diet, including for about 6 months post treatment. It is about careful food handling and selection, as well as maintaining good nutrition.

Sorry. The first one didn't come up as a link, but if you look under posts for the Tips for Chemo that link works there.

Hi little 12

i had taken 6 chemos and had problem of constipation. But have seen in hospital that some had problem of loose motions. But not aware of what diet is suggested for loose motions during chemo. I was also not suggested not to eat anything raw, fruits with thin peel and food cooked after half hour.

lets ask dr. sumeet to guide us and we all are under his guidance which helps us a lot

Take care.

kontak, rana, Pkenn, shirdi; all your replies appreciated and have a point. Pkenn, you are correct, this seems to be a neutropenic diet.

You can very well follow that. Honestly, if first couple of chemo cycles go fine, you can actually have fruits as well. You can eat bland fruits like water melon or its juice. Sour fruits are usually advised to be avoided, as they can cause sore throat. But you can take bland juices.

However, I advice, for a few cycles, follow what your medical oncologist has told you.

For loose motions, you make take medicines given by your doc. We give Lomotil, if loose motions do not stop.

Little 12 - after each chemo my sister was advised 3 injections of Nukenine at alternate days. This helps to increase the WBC counts. Take care and keep posted

It is not uncommon for people to have their neutrophils drop during chemo and many of my friends have gotten neulasta or neupogen injections to help get them back up. The names may be different there. Just be very careful bout exposing yourself to anything that could cause infection. The situation should resolve itself when you finish your chemo. Sending you lots of positive thoughts from the other side of the world!
