I've been taking tamoxifen for 17 months now and I've gained a stone, 24 months after chemo began and I still massively suffer with fatigue...I suffer with weakness, lymphodema, pins n needles to my right arm and hand due to no lymph nodes down it and some nerve damage. I am over compensating trying to do what I can with my left arm/hand but I get on with it as I feel lucky to be cancer free and given a second shot at life xx I'd mention the weakness to your gp xx

Hi Cheerio,

I haven't noticed an arm weakness but I play netball and think that helps with strengthening..

I think tamoxifen (which is classed as a chemotherapy) targets our weaknesses so for me I've a knee injury that flairs up plus always had lower back problems so get a back ache in an out too.. I was told the more you do the better, so try to push through when I feel achy. I had a bilateral mastectomy with lymph nodes removed on left, have to say movement is about 20% less than before but I carried on playing after surgery and during chemo so really think it helped.

There's also talk that different brands give differing side effects, I have noticed a difference, always thought the Wockhardt one was best but am on a different one at the mo and have to say hot flushes aren't as bad (touch wood!)...

I agree if you're worried talk to your GP or consultant, hopefully they can suggest something that helps..

take care

I have been on tamoxifen for 18 months and suffer with fatigue. I also get out of breath quickly, particularly bending and stretching such as pegging out washing. I have actually lost weight on tamoxifen as my appetite has reduced. I walk the dog every day so I get some exercise. I do housework on a daily rota as I can't do the whole house at once, lounge on Monday, kitchen on Tuesday etc. It's all about creating something that works for you. Accept that you can't do things as before but try different ways of doing things. I have lymphoedema in my left arm and I go swimming sometimes which seems to help. I agree with others to talk with your gp or consultant if you are concerned

I even pull a dining chair up to the oven when I clean it to save bending or struggling to get up from the floor

Thanks

Yes it makes me want to just sleep and sleep! No energy. Some say Effexor works but idk if it would with me as I am so sensitive to meds .

Side effects are not great from Tamoxifen and seem to build up over time. Fatigue can be debilitating.
