Further to the conversation a couple of weeks ago regarding Tamaxofen and being pre or post menopausal, I've been to GP today, she thinks I've the through the menopause, come out the other side, and there's no point in having a blood to determine my hormone levels, so I stay on the Tamaxofen until I have a review at Oncology in 2018, x
Tamoxifen: Further to the conversation... - My Breast Cancer ...
Tamoxifen
Was your breast cancer due to hormones?
Hi Rebec, unfortunately I have no idea what type of cancer I had, if I was told it hasn't remained in the memory bank, I just attended a routine mammogram aged 51 (due to getting a letter in the post) it was picked up, lumpectomies swiftly followed which took the cancer away x
You mention lympectomies, so was the cancer located in both breasts? But your GP should have been told what type of cancer you had and your oncologist too. If your cancer was connected to hormones, you'll know to maintain a diet which has as little as possible growth hormones, for instance, and also, you would want to know about your oestrogen levels now. Not to have to wait until 2018! Can't you try talking with another GP?
Hi Rebec, I'm just wondering what you mean about maintaining a diet with as little as possible growth hormones?
Kath
I mean very little dairy products (milk is meant for a calf which needs to grow!) and beef as cows are injected with growth hormones (I think chickens and other animals whose meat we consume too). My oncologist told me no diary and no beef (don't exactly remember if not at all or very little). I eat very little beef but still eat cheese and yoghurt and add some milk in my coffee/tea.
Hi Jenny I would think that your cancer must have been hormone positive if you're on tamoxifen because that's an anti-oestrogen. Best wishes for your continued recovery.
Thanks Mell, I'm sure I must have been told the type of cancer I had but that's one bit of info I didn't retain in my memory bank. The GP I saw earlier obviously had all my hospital letters and she felt it wasn't worth doing a blood test to determine my hormone levels - possibly change tablets, and so I'm now it's a case of if the medics aren't concerned then I'm not going to sit here worrying about it, life's too short x
