My husband has aphasia following a brain haemorrhage and has difficulty communicating. I have read that some people use a touch pad. Might this help him and where could I find out more

Help with aphasia
Hi flurry
My wife uses an iPad
We have a contract one on ee
There are many apps on there
And are suitable to help
And also exercises to help with speech
Your local nhs slt should help with this
My wife’s Asphasia is really bad
It helps sometimes but is not a golden bullet
But I see it as anything that helps
Hi thank you for your response. It reminded me that we had downloaded a programme for aphasia onto my husband’s first iPad so we tried to use it again. Unfortunately his old iPad had given up the ghost but it spurred me onto getting in touch with the speech and language specialist s at our local hospital. They had discharged my husband 2 years ago. They urged me to talk to our GP to get my husband referred to them again. I cannot speak to my GP on a telephone call about this until the end of the month so I have booked that in.So thank you for giving me the encouragement to try again for some support 😊
I know a few good apps
Some are free
The expensive ones aren’t worth the money
Hi there I understand your post was one year ago but would you be able to suggest some of the apps for aphasia as my husband cannot communicate at all through speech.
Thank you
hi junior
These are my recommendations although some aren’t free
All the small talk ones
Start off with the mouth exercises
Phenomes etc
They are free downloads
Next cuespeak
It’s a small fee each month but it regularly updates
Tactus are good too although they are expensive
My wife’s speech hasn’t come back
She knows a few words
But the aphasia is the inability to recall them and also the ability to form the mouth to make the sounds
Repetition and simple words are the start
I’m here to help if you need me
Thank you very much for your recommendations. So sorry to hear about your wife's situation. It actually sounds identical to my husbands. He can repeat words but struggles to say words independently. It is nearly 3 years since he was seriously assaulted and still receiving speech therapy twice a week. He will not accept the way he now needs to communicate which can make life sometimes very difficult. I wish you both lots of luck xx
