Hi,

I am 4 days late for my period, I get them regularly every month.

My husband and I had unprotected sex 3-4 times between the 14th February - 20th February.

I tested on the 1st of March which was when my period was due and it came back negative. I am getting really bad cramps (like I am on my period) but haven't started yet. I have got my usual period symptoms such as sore breasts, cramps, back pain and I am feeling tired constantly.

Could I have tested too early? And should I do a re-test? If so, when is the best time for me the re-test?

I am a little concerned as my period is never late and I am getting all these symptoms. Could it be something else?

Thank you

Hi there

Because you last had unprotected sex on the 20th Feb, then you are too early to test.

To test for pregnancy you should test 3 weeks after the unprotected sex. However, if your period still hasn't come on the 8th ( when you are a week late for your period) you could take a test then. It might be better to take the test in the early morning as urine will be more concentrated.

If you are really worried I would suggest visiting your local contraceptive and sexual health clinic to talk through dates with them or alternatively you could book an appointment with your GP. Here is a link to find your local clinic: fpa.org.uk/find-a-clinic

I hope this helps

Best wishes

Katherine

Thank you so much for your reply, it turns out I must have just ovulated late as my period came 2 weeks late.

Better luck next time!

It could be to early depending on when you could of possibly conceived. As it was over 6 days and sex occurred 3-4 times. So I would recommend re testing ,in around a week to 2 weeks from now - as it would be easier to detect. Also if your period was,for whatever reason delayed , although un -common for you, you would be of course aware if it happened later than usual or didn't occur at all. The symptoms could be caused by something as simple as an irregular (for your cycle)hormone imbalance this month. Hope this helps :D
