How likely is it that a person will fall pregnant if they have unprotected sex while on the injection and while menstruating?

Hi there,
The contraceptive injection is around 94% effective if repeated on time, so it is very unlikely a woman will conceive while using this method. Again, it is unlikely a woman will conceive while on her period but it is not impossible. If you are concerned that you might be pregnant, you should take a pregnancy test. If you are still having periods, you should take the test after your missed period, but if your periods are irregular or have stopped altogether because of the injections, you can take the test 21 days after you had sex. However, as I said, there is most probably nothing to worry about. If you are concerned about the effectiveness of your injections you might want to have a chat about it when you next go for your injections with the doctor or nurse as they will hopefully be able to reassure you.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Katherine
